Virtual Women’s Circles

Virtual Women’s Circles are a space for women to reflect, connect, and center together. Gathering in circle is a timeless tradition that honors an ancient need to recognize ourselves as a part of a whole. Circles strengthen our connection to one another, to the cycles of nature, and to our own spiritual center.

The first time I attended a women’s circle, I wasn’t entirely sure why I was there, but I knew I wanted to be. I remember feeling like something about the gathering was deeply familiar, and that it was unlike anything I had ever experienced before. I just knew I had to keep signing up.

I started my own women’s circle because I felt a deep desire to have intentional spiritual community. My first circle was a potluck dinner at my Queens apartment in 2018. That circle has since morphed into a bi-coastal virtual gathering, which inspired by first open Virtual Women’s Circle in 2020.

 FAQs

  • Circles always follow the general outline of a grounding meditation, a group check-in, a short break if needed, then another short meditation, a card pull/ journal reflection, an invitation to share, and a closing intention. Every aspect of the circle is guided by the facilitator and each circle will generally have a mix of seasoned participants and newcomers.

  • There will be a few opportunities to speak - twice to state your name and your intention/takeaways, and twice to share more about yourself and your experience. Each share will be guided with prompts, and you can share as much or as little as you’d like.

Circles are most powerful when everyone participating is fully engaged, but you are encouraged to take care of yourself as needed (including going on/off camera and passing on your turn to share).

  • I suggest that you set yourself up in a comfortable space where you will be undisturbed for the entirety of the circle. You can use anything that helps to create a soothing space for yourself, including any smells, incense, candles, blankets, etc. Please bring a journal, something to write with, and an oracle deck or book of your choice. If you don’t have either, you can reach out and I can pull a card for you.

  • In order to uphold the comfort and sacredness of the space, circles are not recorded. Please only sign up if you know you can attend live. If for any reason you sign up but are not longer able to attend, you can either be credited for the next circle, or receive a refund.

  • Women’s circles have been happening for centuries, and have served social, political, and spiritual purposes throughout history. Creating a space by and for women, meant to validate our experiences and empower our voices, stands in opposition to the many cultural forces that attempt to separate, diminish, and belittle us in our struggles and our strengths. It was Consciousness Raising groups in the 60’s that helped women realize they weren’t “hysterical” for feeling the impacts of sexism in their lives. Circles like these have also protected spiritual, Earth-based wisdom practices, against repeated systematic attempts at erasure and destruction.

Circles are spaces where we are able to hold and teach one another, where invaluable wisdom is shared and received, where we can exist beyond limiting social expectations.

There is no singular purpose of a women’s circle, and it can effect each participant differently. The core intention for these circles is connection - providing a space for women to connect intentionally to themselves and to others through practices of expression and reflection.
